TANNA PAYNE

Tanna has always led an active lifestyle, focused around sports, fitness and nutrition. Over the years she has trained and competed in figure skating, swimming, kick-boxing and fitness modeling.

It was only natural that in 2000, when she discovered the sport of Olympic Weightlifting, she immediately committed herself to the challenge. In 2002 she became the B.C. Provincial and Western Canadian Champion in her weight category, following up with a medal at the 2003 Canadian Weightlifting Championships. Her rapid improvement and success landed her a position on the Canadian National team competing at the 2003 World University Championships in Italy. Her positive attitude and leadership qualities were rewarded with the role of ambassador for women’s weightlifting in the promotion of the 2003 World Weightlifting Championships in Vancouver, BC.

Following the Italy championships, Tanna moved to Winnipeg for a year to train with the Hercules Weightlifting Club and coaches Mirek & Raf Korkowski. Her work ethic, determination and focus mirrored the values of the club and she was a role model to new aspiring weightlifters. With a passion for health and fitness, Tanna shifted her energy to helping others reach their own potential. She became a certified personal trainer, certified post-rehabilitation specialist and also co-founded the Hercules Weightlifting Club in Nanaimo. Her education and experience allowed her the opportunity to develop many individuals and teams – ranging from ‘new to fitness’ to ‘elite’ professional athletes.

Tanna is currently an active athlete and coach with the Hercules Weightlifting Club in Nanaimo. She has recently broken provincial and national masters records and continues to inspire our membership with her skill and dedication. Tanna shows that anything is possible, by balancing her love for fitness with her pursuit of a bachelor degree in nursing, while sharing it all with her 2 young girls. She is always willing to learn and happy to teach, making her a huge asset to our team.
