Dean Gillert was introduced to Olympic Weightlifting in 1986, at which time he used it to supplement his strength training for Decathlon. He was one of the original members of the Hercules Weightlifting Club, and following six years as a decathlete, he continued to compete in Olympic Weightlifting until the age of 28.
He has completed the Level 1 and Level 2 National Coaching Certification Program for weightlifting and has been involved as an assistant coach at the Hercules Weightlifting Club in Winnipeg.
He has recently expanded the Hercules Club program to the Winnipeg Rowing Club, where he is actively coaching only their members.
Dean’s desire is to improve athlete performance and through proper training, take them to the next level. Since the movements and mechanics in Olympic Weightlifting and rowing are very complimentary, Dean’s experience in the sport is a huge asset to the development of the rowing community.
